Nissan's mid-size car is this year's big seller

Nissan's American-built mid-size car, the Altima, is catching on with car buyers this year.
Through the first nine months of 2011, the pleasantly styled and well-powered Altima posted U.S. sales of more than 200,000 and outsold a perennial top seller, the Honda Accord. The Altima also was the fifth most popular car or truck in the United States in sales last month, and its September sales were just 495 shy of the month's total Toyota Camry sales.

The Accord and Camry traditionally are No. 1 and 2, respectively, in U.S. car sales.
The sales gains aren't just because the Nissan was able to resume production faster than Honda and Toyota after the big earthquake in Japan early this year and have readily available cars on dealer lots.
The five-passenger Altima, which made its U.S. debut in the 1993 model year, has been coming into its own for a while, Nissan officials said.

Buyers find the 2012 Altima largely unchanged from the 2011 version, which has been known for spunky performance, comfortable ride and easy-to-use controls and gauges. The 2012 models with four-cylinder engine also are competitive in fuel mileage, ranking seventh overall among non-diesel and non-hybrid 2012 mid-size sedans.

Adding to the appeal: The Altima, with above average reliability, is a recommended buy of Consumer Reports.
And the 2012 sedan earned four out of five stars for passenger protection in a frontal crash and five out of five stars for side crash protection.

Plus, it's built in not one, but two assembly plants in the United States — Smyrna, Tenn., and Canton, Miss.
The biggest change for Altima for 2012 is that the slow-selling, high-priced, gasoline-electric Altima hybrid sedan is no longer being produced.

Starting manufacturer's suggested retail price, including destination charge, for the 2012 Altima sedan is $21,170. This is for the base 2.5 model with 175-horsepower, four-cylinder gasoline engine and continuously variable transmission (CVT) that a driver operates like an automatic transmission. The upscale Altima 3.5 SR sedan, which has sport-tuned suspension and 270-horsepower V-6, has a starting retail price, including destination charge, of $26,190.

In comparison, the competing, mid-size 2012 Ford Fusion sedan has a starting MSRP, including destination charge, of $20,645 with 175-horsepower four-cylinder engine and manual transmission. The lowest retail price for a 2012 Fusion with automatic is $21,540, which is $370 more than the base Altima.
The 2012 Honda Accord sedan with 177-horsepower four cylinder and manual transmission starts at $22,150, or $980 more than the base Altima. With automatic, the 2012 Accord sedan starts at $22,950.
The Altima also is sold as a two-door, five-seat coupe with a starting MSRP, including destination charge, of $24,360. This base coupe comes with 175-horsepower four cylinder and manual transmission. The lowest starting retail price for a 2012 Altima Coupe with automatic is $24,860.

The test Altima was the mid-range 2.5 S sedan that topped out at more than $26,000 with power driver seat, moonroof, Bluetooth connectivity, dual climate control and alloy wheels among the options. With standard curtain air bags, traction and stability control, the tester did not have leather-trimmed seats or navigation system.
The test Altima immediately impressed with its power. The 2.5-liter, double overhead cam four cylinder moved the car quickly and in sprightly fashion on city streets and country roads.

There was engine buzziness on uphill sections of highway, but the car still kept up with traffic.
The CVT worked well, without making passengers hear a lot of high-engine revving. In fact, it was one of the best experiences I've had with a four-cylinder and CVT working together smoothly to power a sizable car that's nearly 16 feet long.

The Altima's steering was nicely responsive, too, and better than expected. I appreciated that the car came with both tilt and telescope steering column, so I could adjust the wheel to the best spot for me.
The interior was quite quiet, and I didn't hear much from passing trucks or motorcycles. I didn't notice wind noise, either.

Fabric seats looked and felt good, and side windows in front and back were good-sized. But back-seat headroom was about an inch less than what's in the Fusion and Accord. All gauges, buttons and knobs were easy to understand and within reach. I was especially impressed by the huge Altima glovebox with nearly half a cubic foot of space.

Cubbies on the doors were large enough to hold 20-ounce drinks, and there were three cupholders in the console between driver and front passenger — a nice touch.
There also was a handy covered cubby at the base of the middle of the dashboard that was just right for storing a cell phone.
It is, however, easy to drive the four-cylinder Altima with gusto, because it powers along so easily. Often, I found myself going over the speed limit in the city, but I still averaged 26.5 miles per gallon in travel that was 70 percent city driving.

This was enough to go 530 miles on a single tank of regular gasoline, because the Altima's big tank holds 20 gallons. In comparison, the Accord's gas tank is 18.5 gallons.

For the record, the four-cylinder Altima is rated at 23 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway.
Unfortunately, there already have been two safety recalls of the 2012 Altimas. One, announced in July, was for certain 2011 and 2012 Altimas that had suspension bolts that weren't tightened to specification and could lead to vibration and possible loss of vehicle control.

The second recall, announced in August, was due to an air bag control unit not being assembled properly. This could mean the air bag wouldn't properly inflate in a crash.

Ralph Lauren, Missoni and Kate Spade, better known for fashionable clothing, are now taking up a new product line, designer bicycles -- and they are selling fast.

Three-speed bicycles with the trademark zig-zag and striped patterns of Italian fashion house Missoni nearly sold out the day of their introduction at Target this month, and only a few are still available in scattered stores.

The two-wheelers, which cost $399, got a jump-start from a covetous celebrity tweet by actress Jessica Alba. One version -- with a distinct copper-colour pattern -- sold out the first day and has resold for as much as $1,279.95 on EBay.

They were snapped up by customers such as Connie Chen, a Portland, Ore., industrial engineer and occasional bike rider.

"I was really drawn to the patterns of the paint and the fact that it was a designer bicycle and was very classic with a leather seat and a basket," Chen said.

Fashion designers like bicycles because, unlike cars, they are comparatively easy and inexpensive to customize in ways that produce dramatic visual results and "become moving billboards" for their work, said Constance Winters, who runs the popular blog Lovely Bicycle. In addition to writing on the technical issues of cycling, she has been following the intersection of bicycles and high fashion.

Designers are putting their imprint on the two-wheelers through special colour schemes, logos and component selection, often leaning to leather saddles, grips and handlebar tape.

"Bicycles also require accessories, such as handlebar bags and panniers, which is right up fashion designers’ alley," Winters said.

This month, Ralph Lauren’s Rugby division will unveil a $2,200 limited-edition men’s two-speed leather-saddled "roadster" bicycle and accompanying line of tweed cycling clothes, the fashion house’s interpretation of what sporting men and women might have worn before World War II.

The fashion house plans a Tweed Run on Saturday in New York to pitch the new line. It is patterned after an annual 10-mile recreational bike ride by the same name through London that is a favourite of enthusiasts of vintage bicycles and clothing.

Earlier this year, Kate Spade New York partnered with boutique Manhattan bicycle retailer Adeline Adeline to offer a European-style women’s single-speed two-wheeler in a distinctive green and bicycle bags to sell at the shop and Kate Spade stores nationwide. Kate Spade advertises that the "enclosed chain case keeps hemlines safely out of harm’s way."

"Many companies are looking for any association that they feel is cool and links with youth or a product which is very fashionable," said Paul Smith, the English fashion designer. "A bicycle is no exception."

Although demand for these bicycles is rising, they still make up only a tiny portion of what’s sold annually in the U.S.

Kate Spade has produced 100 bicycles, including 30 that went to the Shutters on the Beach hotel in Santa Monica, Calif., to rent to guests. Ralph Lauren will sell just 50 bikes. Target’s was the most populist venture, with roughly 1,700 stores selling one women’s Missoni bike model and the company’s online business selling more Missoni models, including a men’s bike.

The limited number of these fashion bikes is one of the attractions, said Elsa Termenon, a Philadelphia-based writer for Swedish magazines and author of the fashion blog Styleabaad, who purchased the $1,100 Kate Spade bicycle.

"I look for something unique and special and something that not everyone else has," Termenon said. "It goes with my personal style. The way I dress is very colourful and I wear a lot of vintage dresses."

Other trendy retailers are pitching bicycles as fashion statements.

Urban Outfitters has paired with Republic Bicycles to offer an online bike shop. Shoppers can select a frame style -- a traditional men’s or a Dutch looping step-through women’s bike -- and customize in thousands of ways by picking from multiple colour options for the frame and individual components such as pedals, saddles and wheels. The bikes start at $399.

These retailers aren’t going for the fitness-oriented weekend cycling crowd that’s dominated by decidedly unfashionable "MAMILS," otherwise known as middle-aged men in Lycra shorts.

"We allow our customers to customize their bike with colour and offer different models so they can make their bike a reflection of their personal style," said Crystal Carroll, an Urban Outfitters spokeswoman. "Anyone with an interest in fashion is aware that everything they buy is a reflection of their style."

The Kate Spade bicycles fit with the other inventory at Adeline Adeline, where owner Julie Hirschfeld focuses on durable steel-framed city bikes. You won’t find a super-light carbon-fiber racer in her shop. Hirschfeld said customers consider bicycles a form of transportation and fun. Some might use them to commute; others take their bikes for a leisurely ride through Manhattan’s Central Park and a picnic, or out to coffee.

"A bike is part of your lifestyle if you are riding it a lot and you want it to be part of your outfit," Hirschfeld said. "People want a nice-looking bike."

The companies aren’t actually making bikes but rather putting their designer imprint on products made by established manufacturers.

The Ralph Lauren bicycle is essentially a rebadged offering from Pashley Cycles, England’s oldest continuously operating builder. The Kate Spade is built by Abici, an Italian company.

Hirschfeld said she likes seeing the fashion houses get involved with bicycles.

"Seeing bikes in a lifestyle context is a good thing," she said. "I would like to get bikes away from sports into a place where people incorporate their bikes into their lives."

REMEMBERING: Shoya Tomizawa

Shoya Tomizawa died on San Marino Grand Prix crash

The fun and outrageous San Marino Grand Prix event turns out to be a disaster when a motorcyclist's life ended. The motorcycle industry lost one of its renowned and most respected rider this month.

The tragedy shocked the motorcycling world last Sunday as Moto2 rider Shoya Tomizawa was crashed by two motorcycles during the Grand Prix. The 19-year old Japanese motorcyclist was reported dead at the Riccione Hospital from cranial, thoracic and abdominal trauma.

Racer Shoya Tomizawa was currently on his 15th lap when he suddenly lost control of his fast-running bike, lost his grip and was thrown off the bike. He then was hit by two other motorcyclist, Scott Redding and Alex de Angeli before sliding 130 feet to a halt.

He was first taken to the circuit's medical center before being transferred to Riccione Hospital. He died from his injuries at exactly 14:20 local time. His death was announced at the end of the race. Sadly, the podium flags were lowered to half-mast, and the podium was celebrated without champagne.

After a successful career in the All Japan Road Race Championship, Shoya switched to MotoGP and competed in the 250cc class during 2009. In the 2010 season he rode in the newly created Moto2 class. The Moto2 rider has been on the top ranks ever since he began racing at the age of three.

Tomizawa's family and team mates extend their sympathies to the racer's farewell.

They clearly stated: “Shoya Tomizawa was one of the rays of sunshine in the paddock and within his team. He never missed an opportunity to dedicate a smile or a ‘hello' to anybody he encountered. He enjoyed having fun with his colleagues but was also a very professional rider who was spirited, and fully concentrated on the development of his bike after every ride. All were impressed by his talent and his refined style of riding. He worked hard to give his maximum not only for himself but for everybody in his team, who had become a second family with whom he spent most of his free time between races. We have not only lost a talented rider, we have lost a friend and a son who radiated the joy of life and transmitted a good feeling to all those around him. This will always remain in our memories”.

Show will be the ultimate showcase for these breakthrough innovations. Technology to look for includes advanced applications of Bluetooth, radar sensors, embedded telephony and cloud computing. In use, they give drivers hands-free access to personal data, communications, audio entertainment, social networking and advanced safety measures previously unimaginable.

Advanced Safety Systems

Once consisting of passive systems like seatbelts and airbags, today automotive safety is being defined by "intelligent" systems designed to avoid and prevent accidents. Radar sensors, GPS, Artificial Intelligence, cameras and other technologies mean features such as sophisticated lane departure warning systems are now available. Like many of these new technologies, the lane departure warning systems--which use cameras and sensors to alert a driver drifting from their lane--were first introduced by luxury brands. That has changed as more mainstream vehicles, such as the 2011 Ford Focus, feature the same advanced capabilities. Related systems, including active blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alerts and backup cameras are also now appearing in vehicles across multiple price categories. These technologies alert drivers to unsafe situations through a variety of methods, including automated notifications such as subtle vibration in the steering wheel and the use of LED warning lights.

Part of the Driver Assist Package, Audi will be showcasing its "pre sense plus" technology in several vehicles making their North American debut--the 2012 S6, S7, S8 and A8 models. The integrated system anticipates and reacts to incidents using a radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control sensor, lane assist, side assist and controlled, automated braking.

BMW offers the Assist Safety Plan, a comprehensive protection platform including the SOS Emergency Request, remote Door Unlock assistance, Stolen Vehicle Recovery (a remote vehicle locator), and a Critical Calling feature for making emergency calls through the vehicle's embedded cellular technology.

Hyundai's safety solution is the new Blue Link platform, which offers Automatic Collision Notification (ACN) and Assistance on new vehicles including the 2012 Veloster, which will also be on the show floor this year. ACN is triggered when an airbag deploys, while the SOS system alerts safety specialists and enhanced roadside assistance via a dedicated button that automatically transmits vehicle information and location for rapid dispatch.

Mercedes-Benz ATTENTION ASSIST uses an algorithm to produce an individual driver profile that recognizes typical patterns of behavior and then compares that profile with current data from sensors to detect if the driver is tired. For example, if unintentional lane departures are detected, or delayed reaction times coupled with over-corrective steering, ATTENTION ASSIST will sound an alarm and offer a visual warning in the vehicle's instrument cluster.

Infotainment

Vehicles are no longer simply about getting from here to there. They have become an extension of the office and the living room thanks to advanced technologies that allow drivers to share, socialize, be informed and entertained, all while keeping their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. For example, voice text messaging, found in vehicles equipped with connected systems such as Ford SYNC, enable drivers to safely send hands-free text messages, while Mercedes-Benz COMAND platform offers popular apps ranging from music services like Pandora, to social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

At this year's Show, Cadillac will debut its new CUE (Cadillac User Experience) system. CUE has all of the bells and whistles we have come to expect from top infotainment systems: iPod integration, app capability (e.g. Pandora and Stitchert), Bluetooth hands-free technology for phoning and audio for wireless music streaming and AM/FM/HD/XM radio. It also boasts a BluRay rear-seat entertainment system and delivers new user interface advancements that emulate many of the swipe, tap, scroll and even pinch-to-zoom features that consumers have come to expect from the touch-screen interfaces of smartphones and tablets. CUE is scheduled to be available on the Cadillac XTS and ATS sedans and SRX crossover sometime in late spring of 2012.

Kia's Microsoft-powered UVO hands-free system is available on vehicles highlighted at the L.A. Show, including the Sportage LX, EX and Sorento, and gives drivers multiple voice commands and touch screen options that allow pairing with an MP3 player, ripping music from CDs and the ability to answer and place hands-free calls and text messages.

Custom Services

Hotels are no longer the sole domain of the concierge, as an increasing number of automotive marques now offer "always-on" services for users who can access plans such as BMW Assist, GM's OnStar, Hyundai's Blue Link and Infiniti's Personal Assistant. These services are enabled by technologies including cloud computing, Bluetooth hands-free communication and GPS, to provide a whole new level of function and service, such as voice text messaging, automated dispatching of emergency roadside assistance and even connecting with a live concierge for restaurant recommendations. Now, these services can be added to a broad range of vehicles with OnStar's FMV (For My Vehicle), an after-market solution integrated into a vehicle's rearview mirror that delivers a similar level of safety, navigation and communication technology.

One example of these custom services includes Infiniti's Personal Assistant, featured in all-new Infiniti models such as the JX luxury crossover, which makes its World Debut at the L.A. Auto Show. This is a 24-hour anytime/anywhere concierge service for anything from restaurant reservations to gift ideas. Part of Blue Link, Hyundai's Service Link manages maintenance schedules, offers an Eco-Coach to improve efficient driving and even delivers restaurant ratings.

The Entune-equipped 2012 Toyota Prius v offers a feature-set including integrated apps like Bing search, Pandora, OpenTable restaurant reservations, a search for movie times and even parental-oriented functions like a GeoFencing capability that sends text alerts if a vehicle strays from a predefined area.

Navigation

One of the first auto technology platforms appearing in vehicles over a decade ago, navigation has now become the most ubiquitous. Advanced GPS systems that navigate to destinations and locate Points of Interest (POIs) now also create custom itineraries, receive live traffic updates and respond to voice commands. Navigation has also become more integrated with other technologies, including telematics and Google data services, allowing for automated location-based alerts and customized map searches. For example, BMW's ConnectedDrive platform automatically recognizes a vehicle's position and can send a driver results for a pre-defined POI category, say a hotel, allowing them to select one and have it loaded into the nav system with the touch of a button.

Hyundai's Blue Link connectivity platform provides agent-assisted POI searches and downloads, such as locating the best gas prices, while allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. Blue Link packages are available on 2012 models on view at the Show including the Azera, Sonata and Veloster, and will be in the majority of Hyundai vehicles by 2013.

Mercedes-Benz's mbrace system, available in several vehicles on display at this year's Show, features an advanced navigation and destination planning database along with a companion app allowing drivers to send addresses and POIs from their smartphones. Mbrace also features live operator route assistance and the Drive2Friend feature, allowing a friend's location to be sent from their smartphone to a vehicle's navigation system.

These are just some of the latest advancements that can be experienced in many of the vehicles featured at this year's L.A. Auto Show.

We can barely see a wide array of motorcycles in the market today. Each of them carries a unique and innovative feature that makes them out stand over its competitors. So what points do we usually look at when choosing the perfect bike? Are we considering its head-turning exteriors? Or do we want something raging and runs like a king on the road? Some of the motorcycles of today have similar features and qualities; but as the all-new 2010 Ducati Streetfighter S appears on the scene, this mentality went wrong.

Earlier this year, a press introduction to 2010 Ducati Streetfighter S was held in the borders of Ascari Circuit in Spain. The press release impressed and wowed thousands of viewers who attended the said event. But what they didn't know yet is how strong and wild this Ducati is while running on the road. Some mentioned that this bike was an animal – both its general nature and its ferocity when hard on the gas.

Based on available details, it seems that this Ducati bike was nothing more than a stripped- down and revised replica of the old Ducati Streetfighter. But I went wrong! The 2010 Ducati Streetfighter S carries an awesome features. Its high engine performance, great wheels and brakes, and unique body will definitely captivate the attention people. It's not exactly what we'd describe as beautiful, but its stripped-down appearance of industrial art gives it a real sense of purpose and machinery-ness.

COMPETITION

The Ducati is probably obtaining a high popularity in the world motorcycle market these days. This reality brought a little fear to Borgo-Panigale-based company. However, the Italian giant still continues to innovate and improve, making them an ever-larger PIA for the Big Four, and distancing itself from its domestic competitors. Also, even though produced in a different manner, the 2010 Ducati Streetfighter was often compared to 2008 Benelli TnT 1130. The Benelli scoot was tested before and was concluded to have some unreliability issues making the Ducati praised highly.

EXTERIOR

There is no surprise. The core feature of the Ducati is its tried-and-true liquid-cooled 1099cc L-Twin engine that was also used in the 2008 Ducati 1098 Superbike. Also, like the 1098 version, the cylinders of the 2010 Ducati is 104x64.7 bore/stroke dimensions. Its cylinder head makes use of a four 42mm intake valves and an equal number of 34mm exhaust valves controlled via Ducati's unique valve actuation system. When it comes to the engine's fuel, a pair of Marelli fuel injectors were on duty to pump fuel into the elongated oval-shaped throttle bodies of the bike. And due to the Ducati's unique and impressive frontal appearance, the fuel injectors receives a fresh air through a modified air tract, which results to 5-horsepower decrease in power output.

A choice of eye-catching red and midnight black colors have probably added a more slender look to the Streetfighter. The Streetfighter’s soul is a combination of a fighter attitude and a naked sophistication to create a pure adrenaline. ‘S’ treatment of the Streetfighter pushes its tech spec to the red line. In addition to its innovative exterior, the 2010 Ducati owns a power house that's highly protected by two cooling radiators - carefully curved in a naked style for a more stunning look. The upper radiator is assisted by lightweight, high flow electric fan assemblies while the lower sits in the front of the belly pan, which also houses a highly efficient oil heat exchanger.

The bike's elliptical throttle bodies are equivalent to a diameter of 63.9mm which contributes to the increase in power. The Streetfighter's lightweight crankshaft assembly operates a highly ‘over-square’ bore and stroke with huge 104mm pistons powering through short 64.7mm strokes. Also take into considerations the Ducati's 5-spoke wheels by Marchesini, forged and then machined in lightweight aluminum.

2011 Yamaha FZ8

With the mission to produce an extensive number of outrageous motorbikes, the Yamaha Motor Company has recently delivered the press introduction of their newest sporty naked FZ8 bike that will be imported to the U.S on 2011. The 2011 Yamaha FZ8 has outstanding features that are able to lure first-time riders. It's digital display, comfortable lower seats, and highly-designed body attracts female riders.

The 2011 FZ8 is believed to be an improved version of the previous Yamaha bikes. It's production was greatly inspired by its siblings FZ1 and FZ6. The three FZ models share a common chassis, swingarm, and a majority of engine components. Also, FZ8 was created with a good bottom end and gearbox that over-topped the 2008 R1. It has a faster engine performance that reduces the boredom brought by the 1000cc FZ1, and a four-valve head design upgrading the FZ1’s five-valve.

Aside from having a few similarities to FZ1 and FZ6, the 2011 Yamaha FZ8 still possesses original features. A newly designed fuel-injected 4-cylinder engine makes this bike a unique one.

BRAKES
The FZ8 has a twin front disc brake specs that were nearly identical at 310mm, and a single 267mm disc. Both of these were pinched by a four-piston front, and single-piston rear calipers.

ENGINE
Another great thing that Yamaha did to FZ8 was its 779cc engine that has the power to deliver 106.2 hp at 10,000 rpm and 60.8 ft-lb of torque at 8,000 rpm. Its two injectors per cylinder, accompanied by a generous 7.8L air box and asymmetrical intake manifolds, gives the engine two inner cylinders that generate more torque and two outers focusing on power.

POWER DELIVERY
The FZ8's power delivery is a big advantage for all riders. The off the line grunt is delivered from as low as 3500RPM. And below 6,000RPM, this bike responds with a smooth and fluid power delivery. These features were intended by Yamaha to produce a strong bottom end power development to make the FZ8 user-friendly.

DESIGN
The 2011 FZ8 model is equipped with a front cowl and screen. A short muffler, narrow tank and a 3-part tank cover are some aspects that makes FZ8 out stand among its siblings. While the black side parts, colored tank, and headlight unit on the Yamaha FZ8 adds a strong-looking detail.

All in all, the visual impression of this bike is that it looks fast even when it's standing still. Maybe due to its sensually curved diamond frame and muscular 4-cylinder engine.

The riding position is sporty but comfortable, with a seat height of 815mm and a narrow tank which gives the rider a good ground access.

WHEELS
The FZ8's wheels are five-spoke cast aluminium rims - the front tyre is a 120/70 ZR17, and the rear is a 180/55 ZR17. This gives the bike an outstanding ride feeling, grip and cornering performance.

As stated above, the 2011 Yamaha FZ8 is a combination of the great and popular features being utilized in the earlier bikes released by Yamaha.

With an MSRP of $10,499, the FZ8 is ideal for novice riders ready to step up from their training bikes, or for intermediate riders who are seeking ‘big bike’ credit, near-sportbike grins in the twisties, and a hint of upright practicality.

Eugene Laverty signs up for Yamaha WSS team

Team Yamaha Sterilgarda seems to be geared up and well-prepared for the upcoming 2011 World Sportbike. They just finalized their line of superb riders competing for the much-awaited match. Along with MotoGP rider Marco Melandri fighting for the title, Yamaha had also listed World Supersport rider Eugene Laverty to play for the team. For the 2011 season, the 24-year-old Irish rider who was last year’s WSS runner-up, will ride Yamaha Sterilgarda's YZF-R1 Superbike.

Eugene Laverty races for Parkalgar, Honda two seasons ago. Back then, Laverty finished second to current Yamaha Sterilgarda rider Cal Crutchlow in 2009, and currently trails Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuoglu by 12 points in the 2010 World Supersport Championship, with seven wins this year in 11 races.

Eugene Laverty was not new to Yamaha. The young rider was famous for greatly showing off at the 250cc MotoGP Championship to enjoy a 2 wild card World Supersport rides in 2008 in place of injured rider Fabien Foret. Laverty was noted very impressive during those times by finishing third in his second outing at Vallelunga.

With Laverty's splendid racing experience, it's a great decision for the Yamaha team to choose him to compete in the championship. As said by Yamaha Motor Europe racing manager, Laurens Klein Koerkamp, “We’ve been very impressed with Eugene in the World Supersport Championship...He is a very talented racer who has shown great dedication to training, is focused on victory and we know he’s a great person to work with. We have proved with Cal Crutchlow that we have the facility to bring young riders through from World Supersport, continue to nurture and develop them in World Superbike and provide them with further opportunities in MotoGP if the situation is right. We look forward to working with Eugene and believe he has the talent to continue through with Yamaha into the future.”

As the 2011 season comes nearer, more excitement arises for the Yamaha team, as they are all ready for the match with their two outstanding racers. Signing Laverty for the upcoming race is surely an aid for the team's victory.

The Toyota Fortuner is a medium-sized SUV based on the Toyota Hilux. Assembled only in Thailand, the Fortuner is built on the well-established platform of the Toyota Hilux pickup truck. The Ford Everest is a midsize SUV sold in Asia, Central America, and the Bahamas. The Everest is based on the local (Mazda-based) Ford Ranger pickup truck platform. In India it is called Ford Endeavour.

The truck has three-rows of seating, rear or four wheel drive, and 2.5 L Diesel or 2.6 L petrol engines. It rides on a 2860 mm (112.6 in) wheelbase. The Everest was introduced in late March 2003 and is built at the AutoAlliance Thailand plant, and as CKD kits in other countries (India, Malaysia, Vietnam).

In the United States, Ford had planned to name an extended length version of the Ford Expedition the Everest in 2006 as a replacement for the Ford Excursion, but Ford changed their minds at the last minute and decided to rename it The Expedition EL[1].

In mid 2009, after only 2 years, the Everest received a facelift in South East Asia. This facelift is inline with the Ranger's recent update. This facelifted 2009 edition of the Ford Everest continues to be available with either a 2.5 liter turbodiesel with 143 PS, or a 3.0 liter turbodiesel with 156 PS.

Audi A4 Fatal Accident

These may be the best words to use as two friends suddenly bid unspoken goodbye to their loved ones after their car crashed 5 in the morning in C-5 Ortigas Flyover, Pasig City. Another friend is being treated in the hospital for receiving severe injuries.

Killed in the incident were John Paul Uy and Ramon Garcia, both are 28 and living in Valle Verde Pasig City. John Michael Ong was rushed to the Medical City Hospital by the eye witnesses.

According to the Pasig police, the victims were speeding fast with their Audi car, drove by Uy. It lost its brake making it collide with the center island and and electric post, killing two of the three passengers. The crash was so strong that Audi's engine flew down to a taxi nearby.

The eye witnesses told the police and the press that the Audi car which was running fast was about to overtake a car in front of it before it hit the safety barriers in the flyover.

Friends and families are still muted mum about the whereabouts of persons involved before the accident happened.

Meanwhile, this accident caused heavy traffic jam while scattered oil are being cleaned by the sweepers.

One of the most successful rally cars is the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, popularly known as “Evo”. It became immensely popular when it was driven by Tommi Makinen in 1996 to 1999. France is not only known as the home for Eiffel Tower, fashion savvy people, french kiss or french bread. Because even in the heart thumping sports of rally racing, they have their fair share of fame. And this is brought to them by Sebastian Loeb, the country's knight of Legion of Honour. The last phrase you've read is a proof that he is great worldwide. It is an award given by the government to a person who have made significant achievement or contribution to a field that he/she chose. No doubt, Sebastian is not just popular in the country, but also in the world rally racing community.

Sebastian Loeb is a French racer, we no all know that. But did you know that he was a former gymnast? He is, and this made me ask. Does gymnastic has something to do with racing? We never know. He is great in both activity, that's all. Now, the former gymnast is a six-time champion of the World Rally Championship.

He started his racing career in 1995, and from that on, he'd been engaging himself with passion. 1998 was when he first enter the French Citroen Saxo Trophy series. He won it in 1998. According to Car News He then entered the Junior World Rally Championship in 2001 and became the first champion of the competition. On that same year, he hounded Pugeout's very own and a know winner Gilles Panizzi to the finish.

2002-2003 season was his stellar career. It was the time when he signed for Citroen Total World Rally Team. He almost had a the win in Monte Carlo if not for a penalty given to them, forcing them to withdraw from the competition. Sebastian took his first victory at the Rally Deutschland in Germany.

In 2003, he won three WRC events. They are Monte Carlo , Germany and Sanremo. At the end of the year, he was entitled as the Champion of Champions after beating Marcus Gronholm in the “Race of Champions”.

On the next year, Loeb showed consistency. He won six events and taking six runner-up spots to securely give him the drivers' title, 36 points clear of second-placed Solberg. He also won the snow-based Swedish Rally, becoming the first non-Nordic to win the event. On gravel, he triumphed in the Cyprus Rally, Rally of Turkey and the Rally Australia.

In 2005, he made a record of winning six consecutive rallies, beating Salonen's record of four. The next years are also making the same stories. Different opponent but the same results for him. He again won his Race of Champion title on this year. And he continue to dominate the World Rally Championship winning the title of the race from 2004 to 2009.

Right now, we don't need much explanation and narration of his achievements. Let the number speak for his victorious career. HE started his professional career in 1999 and still well playing. He competes for only two teams and has joined already 125 rallies. From that number, he captured 6 world titles from 54 rally wins. He has 52 Podium finishes and 647 stage wins. That counts to a total point of 783. This is quite a lot. That is why he deserves this kind of write-up.

Ken Block is probably the most exciting driver in the rally world right now. Well, not just in rally racing. Because aside from that sport, he is also attached to some adrenaline-raising sports like skateboarding, snowboarding and motocross. As far as his performance in racing is concern it is probably his craft right now. He drives for Subaru, that was before. The entire rally community were shocked of a big change. Block left Subaru for Ford at the very start this year. Now, it is his team mate, Travis Pastrana, who is left with the responsibility to maintain the dominance of Subaru in the rally world.

2005 was the year when Ken Block made a name in World Rally Championship, under the company of Subaru. This happened after he had co-founded the famous DC Shoes. During this season, Ken had five top 5 finishes and end up third overall in the Group N class and fourth overall in the Rally America National Championship. Under the same company, he won the Rally America Rookie of the Year Award. in 2006, The Subaru Rally Team USA became popular because of him and Pastrana. He was also bestowed with 2006 Subaru WRX Sti. His best finish was 2nd Overall in 2006 and 2008. Everything seems so well for him for his mother company. So, for me, 2010 is a developmental year and I am really looking to develop my skills as far as I can and then I can began pushing harder in 2011 and 2012. It is going to be an amazing experience, but I am also very realistic about where I stand in this world and what my goals are going to be for the next year to three years.”

Ken Block is preparing for the World Rally Championship, and he thought this would be the best way to get it.

Ford Fiesta and Subaru Impreza has so much rivalries. Checking out the history, you'll find out that there are many rally drivers that drove a Subaru then moved to Ford and vice versa. Although it's not just the two mentioned car brand that they switched to, it is still noticeable that Subaru and Ford has created rivalry through out the years. Maybe because of the title they have won, or the achievements of their respective drivers, or just plainly because of the efficiency of the cars. Ford Fiesta is a front wheel drive supermini car by the Ford Motor Company. It is one of the company's most successful car after selling more than twelve million units,. It found its break in the 1979 Monte Carlo Rally where it was driven by Roger Clark, supported by Jim Porter, Ari Vatanen and David Richards. Since then, Ford Fiesta became a sensation in rally driving form different parts of the world. The car also continued enhancing their unit to get more achievements in many competitions. In 2007, the Pirtek Rally Team intorduced the Ford Fiesta Super 2000 rally car intended to compete at the Australian Rally Championship. In United Kingdom, Ford Fiesta became common in many club level motorsport series. It also has its own series called Ford Fiesta Championship.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is so much associated with the World Rally Championships, and of course, to Tommi Makinen. The car brand gained so much fame in the WRC because of Tommi and the car itself. In anyway we look at it, the Evolution is definitely one of the best race cars ever invented.

Eleanor is a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 in the 1974 Film starring H.B. Halicki and became a 1967 Shelby GT500 when being revived in 2000 by Nicolas Cage.

From the 1974 film, Eleanor sent the 1973 Ford Mustang into popularity because of its big role in the movie. And as a matter of fact, Eleanor is the only Ford Mustang in history that received Star title credit in a movie. The main star and director of the film Toby Halicki was the one who trademarked the terms “Gone in 60 Seconds” and “Eleanor”. Evo Handling VS Engine Power of Subaru

When it comes to the rally world, Subaru and Mitsubishi are two names that won't let themselves get ignored. And they weren't not ignored, what they did is they grabbed the attention of many car enthusiasts. Their respective designs is not the one that dazzles them, it is the speed. STI by Subaru and EVO by Mitsubishi are the cars that named the tight competition between the two. With everything that is applied on this two, one would find it hard to determine which one is better. It will be very hard, even for experts, to know which one has the edge and which one will be left behind if ever they will meet on the road.

As many reviews said, you can't declare STI as the winner if you haven't drive the EVO and vice versa. The only thing that will distinguish one from the other is when one is drove by a professional and the other one is drove by a baby.

Some say that Mitsubishi's EVO is the greatest. EVO has a steering ratio of 13.0:1 while the Subaru only has 15.2:1. As the numbers show, the previous one appears to be quicker. But the battle does not end there, there are more features that differentiate the two. If chassis is EVO's best attribute, STI takes the credit when it comes to the drivetrain. The cars has more power and torque on tap and more aggressive gearbox. It is hard to find a drivetrain whose priority is to go quickly than any other road car, but STI has it. The car offers a power delivery with rally car handling. When you grind the pedal to the corner exits, the STI turns into a Subaru-powered Camaro. The transitions from understeer to oversteer rapidly with the active center diff doing much of the work in deciding where the power goes. But still, STI is less adjustable than the Mitsubishi's EVO.

When it comes to driving, the responses in EVO is more natural, easier to control and more rewarding. On the other hand, STI is less receptive to mid-corner adjustments from the brakes or the throttle. Braking is awarded to EVO. Since STI is producing an inconsistent pedal feel, it is disheartening to step on it. EVO's braking system provides a relentless stopping power, slowing it time and time again to match the cornering speed.

On the engine, it looks like STI has it. With a 295bhp 2.5 litre turbocharged flat four cylinder engine, it will surely left behind EVO's 2.0 litre turbo with a power of 276bhp. Subaru appears to be the stronger performer because of its more low-down punch and a wave of power all the way up to 8,000rpm red line.

Even though their advantages were mentioned, it is still not clear which one is superior. Power, precision, sharpness and acceleration makes the judgment seismic. We can choose the STI for now, but it can be the EVO in few weeks or months, and the cycle will go on. Because until now, both manufacturers keep on developing their own cars to get the supremacy in rally cars. And this benefits us largely. Their competition is our gain.

The stylish racing car was first revealed in 2007 but was only launched in 2008 and won the Car of the Year by Top Gear on the same year. And would you believe that sports cars is not KTM's specialty? You heard it right. KTM is a better known motorcycle manufacturer. But with the creation of KTM X-Bow, they have the world informed that they can do better than what they are currently doing. This is because the car was used and did well in the 2008 Race of Champions held at Wembley Stadium, London and 2009 Race of Champions in Beijing China. Also in 2008, it won the GT4 SuperLight European Cup with Christopher Haase at the helm, followed up by three other KTM drivers grabbing the first three places in the Sports Light Series. The original plan was to produce 500 units a year, but due to high demand, the production was increased to 1,000, plus an additional plant in Graz, the second largest city in Austria.

X-Bow is more than just it looks. On the race track, it can outperform any sports cars built by notable manufacturers. The car uses turbocharged direct injected TFSI engine manufactured by Volkswagen Group, which produces 177 kilowatts (237 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 310 newton meters (230 lb·ft) of torque between 2,200 and 5,500 rpm. The layout is rear-wheel drive, traditionally used in racing. The engines is 2.0 L turbocharged 14, transmission is either 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG sequential. And with a curb weight of 1500 lbs., the X-Bow's 220-horsepower Audi engine can make the racer propel from 0 to 62 within 3.9 seconds. Other features of this car are carbon fibre monocoque, Brembo brakes, optional DSG transmission, and an F1-style crashbox.

X-Bow don't have windshields but has a specially designed helmet which is very effective as a full crash protection.

Right now, KTM is still working in improving the feature of the X-Bow(crossbow). They are expected to add the option for an even more powerful 300 horsepower engine. Manufacturers are also looking for a possibility to maximize its speed up to 180 mph.
